Day 34 (Sat, July 23rd (Wisconsin Dells to Fond du Lac, Wi (84 miles)

Today we rode from Wisconsin Dells to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.   Fond du Lac sits at the foot of Lake Winnebago, one of Wisconsin's largest and most famous lakes.  This was an 84 mile ride thru some of Wisconsin's most beautiful lake country.

We didn't take many pictures today.   As it turns out, the Black Rocket needed a new back wheel after our dog chase incident yesterday.   We located a bike shop in Fond du Lac that had a suitable replacement wheel in stock, so we rode with intention of getting to the bike shop early enough to get the Black Rocket back in trim for the rest of the trip

Here are few pics of the day:

Our first SAG stop (near the waterfalls in the town of Montello, WI

We stop for early lunch at the American Legion "Brat" barbecue in the town of Princeton, WI

As you can see from the number of bikes, almost everybody stopped for a "Brat" (a spicy hot dog with sauerkraut and onions)

Barry is still making up his mind about these "brats"  (He'd rather have Cherry Pie and Ice Cream)

"Amber waves of Grain" as we head toward Fond du Lac

Farmers are harvesting wheat using the big "combines".   On this trip we've watched the wheat go from green to golden thru to the harvest.   Have we been gone that long?

Interesting landscapes in Central Wisconsin as we near Fond du Lac.   Wisconsin is becoming one of our favorite states so far.

The Rocket needs a new back wheel.   With the clouds approaching, we decide to hoof it to the bike shop in Fond du Lac.  We arrived at the Attitude Plus bike store in Fond du Lac about 2 pm.   By 4 pm, the Black Rocket had a new Mavic back wheel to replace the cracked rim from our dog encounter.   The rocket also got some new "sleeves" as you can see below, and we are now ready to go again.

More tomorrow as we depart Fond du Lac and head to Manitowac, WI a small ferry town on Lake Michigan.  There we will catch the ferry for a trip across this Great Lake to the town of Ludington.   We are getting closer to home.   All of us are excited about the ferry ride.

More Later,
Love to All,
ME
