Day 24 (Weds July 13) - Wall to Pierre, SD (117 Miles)

This long ride from Wall, South Dakota, to the state Capital of Pierre (pronounced Pee-er) turned out to be the toughest day so far.   We left at 6 am and found ourselves riding into a 15-20 mph headwind from due East, not unlike the day before, but this time with heavy and cold rain most of the day.  Some of the faster riders made it in to Pierre by 4 pm, but we still had riders coming in as late as 7:30 pm.   In Pierre, we got our first view of the Missouri River, swollen and well over it's banks due to the heavy rains this year.

The Black Rocket (my bike) is great in the rain and doesn't seem to mind it too much.   I wish I could say the same.   In Virginia when it rains, we leave the bikes in the garage.   On America by Bicycle, we ride rain or shine.

I took one picture today as we departed our hotel in Wall SD.  It started raining shortly after we left.   From then on, We had our hands full contending with the rain.   Day 25 was much better.   Tune in for great pics along the Missouri River.

Love to All,
ME

Here's Matt passing the dinosaur (now the Bakken Oil Field)

It rained most of the day!

Here we are holed up in a little diner.

McDonalds flooded in Pierre - did it ever rain!
