Day 11 (Jun 30) - Mt Home to Twin Falls, ID (97 miles)

In spite of a late start and two missed turns, this turned out to be one of our best days.   We had the same westerly tailwind as yesterday (which made for a fast ride) and the beautiful scenery in the rolling hills of central Idaho.   We had a great lunch stop in the town of Bliss, ID (see the pics of our rainbow trout sandwiches), followed by an afternoon cruising thru the farm and dairyland as the winds blew us into the City of Twin Falls.   Our missed turns added about 5 miles, so the Mike and Barry Team had the longest ride (102 miles) of the day.    Here are some pics of our day.

Starting out - Railroad Crossing

Pushing from the rear (the caboose was actually an engine)

The Snake River in the Morning - look at those skies!

Rolling thru the farmland - Haystacks amid the sagebrush

Looking North - sage, farmland, buttes on the horizon

And a flat tire to fix - no big deal.  Yesterday, we had a tire changing clinic where we all learned how to change a flat tire.   Our trip leader, Mike Munk, holds the record time of 48 seconds.   If you know what you are doing, changing  flat only takes a few minutes.   Later in the day, I had a flat.   My supposedly bulletproof Continental Four Season Elite tires picked up a thorn in the back tire.   Barry, fixed the tire in less than 5 minutes.   As it turns out, even the best biking tires, can get flats.   Try to avoid glass, thorns and old truck tires (with wires).

The Flying Cove Ranch (Having a bull sale this week)

The Flat Tire crowd catching up

An old abandoned Ranch Gate

A modern farmhouse (with skylights and flags flying (see that tailwind)

Flying down hill towards the town of Bliss, ID

Fossil Beds along the Snake River - Rt 30 E (the Oregon Trail)

More fossil beds - this is amazing country

Marge Edwards and little brother Arden Swetzelle with Barry (on Marge's 81st birthday).  The Idaho folks are just great.   Here is a couple we met who took our picture and shared part of their day with us.   Happy 81st Birthday Marge!!
